Exploring the salt cave of southlake

4/23/2017

When we were invited to the Salt Cave of Southlake, we had no clue what to expect. A cave? Filled with Himalayan salt? Was this supposed to be a completely blissful spa experience, or some sort of holistic therapy?

As it turns it, we got a little bit of both.

The relaxation cave

For those of you who’ve visited spas, you might think you’d be walking into a large sauna wearing just a robe (we did). Wrong. Instead, upon being greeted by the gracious staff and learning all about the benefits of salt therapy (which we’ll address shortly), we were directed into the aptly named relaxation cave. Not at all like a dark or foreboding cave, we walked in to find a cool, dimly lit room filled with lounge chairs and blankets. After we plopped into the cushy chairs, wrapped up in blankets and accepted mimosas, we prepared for a total therapeutic sensation.

The halotherapy experience itself involves deep breathing to allow the Himalyan salt in the body to work it’s magic. What one might not notice upon entering the room is that is indeed a man-made salt cave, with the walls literally coated in it and the air vents slowly diffusing even more. Even the lamps are made of salt. They explain that breathing in the salt exposes one to it’s negative ions, and those in turn alleviate respiratory and skin problems.

While this ultra-relaxing experience is no doubt one of a kind, it is not the only route the Salt Cave of Southlake offers. There are four ways to take in the halotherapy, including a yoga experience and a computer-controlled salt bed, which resembles a tanning bed in looks alone. There’s even a kid’s salt cave that we saw for ourselves, with salt acting as makeshift play sand. It’s a great way to allow children to reap the benefits of halotherapy, and it sure beats hauling the kids to the allergist’s office. Moms love it.

So what exactly are the benefits of halotherapy, aside from the fact that it’s totally and completely relaxing? There are many.
“[It’s] 100 percent anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antibacterial,” Shelly Jackson, the Salt Cave of Southlake’s owner and a registered nurse, told Texas Homes for Sale. "These amazing properties help treat the symptoms of many common ailments, including cold [and] flu, asthma, allergies, as well as skin ailments like psoriasis, eczema and acne.”

A Day At Reunion Tower

10/18/2015

You've heard the name many times and you may have even flown right over it on your way into DFW. It's known as one of the many pride and joys to our Lady Dallas for which it shows by lighting the Dallas skyline with vibrant luminescent colors almost every night. Most commonly known as "The Ball," its official name being Reunion Tower, sits 560 feet high as the 15th tallest building in Dallas.

looking back

Starting as far back as 1974 it was this year that Dallas broke ground to start this historical project. The GeO-Deck opened in 1978, but closed for renovation in 2007. It wasn't until 2013 that Reunion Tower reopened to the public and took a huge turn for the best with all its new features and tourist activities.

Touring the tower

We started our tour by visiting the Reunion Tower gift shop. From stuffed animals, Dallas t-shirts, Dallas candy and souvenirs it was comforting to know that you could leave with something special to remember your day at Reunion Tower.

a memorable moment

Before heading up to see the view from up above, we had the opportunity to pose in front of the camera using some pretty interesting, yet funny props. We did our best to make it a good one!

As we took the 68 second elevator ride up, we were kindly greeted by their elevator attendant that spoke not only about the Tower's history, but gave us a number of facts and additional information about our soon-to-be experience.
The 50-acre Reunion Project was one of the nation’s first private-public ventures and included the construction of Reunion Tower, the Hyatt Regency Dallas at Reunion hotel, Reunion Arena and renovation of the 1916-vintage Union Station.

the Geo-deck bar

Before we made our way outside to the GeO-Deck, we took some time to have a cocktail from the Express Dining and GeO-Deck Bar which offers a wide variety of drinks and light food.  Not to mention the amazing view from outside we couldn't help but sit and relax .

Our Reunion Tower tour ended with a trip into the Halo which consisted of touchscreens that featured historical facts and a 3D view of the city. What a great way to mix fun and education all-in-one.

We couldn't leave home without a memorable picture of our day at Reunion Tower. After selecting our favorite picture from when we first arrived, we had the option to add a little creativity by adding our own background.
