Every guy knows the time when they have to make their usual hair cut appointment. With the holiday just around the corner, looking nice for the ladies and prepping for the holiday work party makes the perfect excuse to get an appointment at the salon. Not to mention, looking your best for an upcoming promotion or presentation at work are always an excuse to make sure your hair and shave looks perfect. But, why wait in line or have to dread the smell of acetone as the ladies get their nails done when you have the opportunity to go to an all men’s salon. One that I love in particular is The Boardroom Salon for Men located in DFW.
It’s the perfect oasis away from the usual girly salon that most men dread walking into. “The Boardroom combines the community and nostalgia of an old time barbershop, outstanding client service and professionalism, and a 1920s country club environment to create a masculine salon where men can relax, unwind and confidently enjoy the highest quality haircut, shave or spa service in town." - http://theboardroomsalon.com
As I arrived I was kindly greeted by their front clerk Kim. She was not only welcoming, but she greeted me with the option of a beverage or beer as soon as I walked in the door. Not to mention the option of watching the football game or playing chess or pool while I waited for my seat.
As I was kindly introduced by my stylist Jessy, she began by telling me that I would be receiving their “benchmark” service. The benchmark isn’t just your usual haircut; it’s more of an experience! She started with a consultation by asking me about my hair and what I liked and didn’t like. As she worked her magic, she not only gave me great advice on treating my hair, but she mentioned some helpful tips on styling and treating coarse hair and skin for men (see below).
It wasn’t until much longer that she asked me about being “ready for the fun part!” As she guided me to a different area, she had me dip my hands in a machine full of hot water, which quickly reminded me of a manicure ;/. But don’t worry guys; it’s not what you expect. I considered this more of a “necessary hand treatment for a man” and man… what it necessary!” By surprise, the hand treatment ended up turning into a paraffin wax treatment, which basically adds moisture to your hands and gets rid of those dirty calluses and dirt between your nails.
After it was all said and done, she took me over to wash my hair and massaged my scalp and neck! Wow… now that’s the perfect way to end a day after a long shift at work.
The best part was soon to come – a mini man facial. The treatment contained grape seed oil and small amounts of eucalyptus oil to clear my sinuses and calm the soul. Overall, it felt invigorating! As the oil worked its magic, Jessy began to massage my arms and hands too! It was as if I was in heaven!
“We don’t tell the men they’re getting a pedicure or manicure,” Jessy explains. “Gone are the days for men with crusty feet and bad hair. Men are quickly finding that if they want to keep up in their love life and stay on top of their career in the business world, you have to pay careful attention to your appearance. We are seeing more and more men start to care for their appearance in hopes of getting that promotion or lead on the team.”
Tips by Jessy...
Coarse Hair: Using heavier shampoo and conditioner to add weight to your hair can keep it from sticking straight up.
Skin irritation or small razor bumps: Use a small amount of conditioner on the red bump to sooth the irritation (but if you are unsure, always consult your doctor).
Facial: If you’re a guy that loves facials, know that using pure eucalyptus oil is poisonous without diluting it with water first.
Don't forget to check out their holiday specials!
I would like to give a special thanks to The Boardroom Salon, Jason Hartline, Kirsten Williams and all the staff for making this experience so amazing! I enjoyed meeting everyone and I couldn't think of a better place to come and have my haircut! I give The Boardroom Salon a DOUBLE +1!
